Back online: new wireless router

Finally I’ve returned to the internet! To be honest I was far more relaxed during my short stint offline: ignoring my project/forum responsibilities was a welcome relief after a long year of internet addiction. Yesterday I spent the evening catching up with my e-mail accounts, various forums and community websites. Nothing particularly interesting to note as 76/94 of my e-mails were from spammers and the forums have been pretty quiet lately.

Last year we bought a Linksys WAG54G V1.0 from Denzil Print Ltd. It didn’t function properly so we brought it back; he said it “works fine” even though it didn’t — obviously neglected to test it — and we continued to use it for over a year. A couple of weeks ago the router finally gave in and completely blocked access to the internet and other machines on the network. Luckily, with the router still being under warranty, we were able to contact Linksys technical support — needless to say communicating wasn’t easy — with the result being a brand new WAG54GS.

The new wireless router has Ethernet ports that actually work! This means that, after purchasing a long network cable, I can host services on my family’s desktop: perhaps a game or two, definitely Apache and MySQL servers.

Plans for the next few weeks
