I have never used and kind of strength training supplement or steroid since I began working out; even so I have achieved good results and have not hit a plateau, a common training problem. I believe that with a lot of effort and above-average food intake people can develop well and naturally without having to resort to synthetic substances for help.
What is the point of pushing your body beyond what it should naturally be able to achieve? I’m sure with adequate nutrition, including a lot of protein, the body can achieve its genetic potential — that is all anyone should want. I believe that going beyond this is putting an extreme stress on the body, endangering the person: sure Marius Pudzianowski can train every day and lift who knows what but not everyone is built like that. Instead of comparing yourself to other people work on personal development until you are personally happy with yourself.
Supplements are rife throughout body-building with amateurs taking Creatine and other enhancers to increase performance. I don’t doubt the effectiveness of these products, as they definitely work and give massive gains, but after the final goal has been achieved the dependency will still be there (as muscle mass may decrease after usage has stopped); all programmes should be sustainable without much nourishment, just healthy eating and a continuous, stable exercise routine.
If you are taking supplements, stop and start doing some proper exercises (like the ones I talked about in Exercise tips for the beginner). Rely on your body to improve and adapt to the strains you put on it instead of using injections and drugs to change your body. My policy is to push myself hard and reap the results. Once they stop coming I’ll have to take my training to the next level by varying exercises more and increasing the weight — not taking the unsustainable route.
