My amazon book order, using Christmas money, has finally arrived! A friend of mine recommended Kurt Vonnegut so I’ve bought his most famous works along with some other classics.
- Slaughterhouse 5
- Mother Night
- Breakfast of Champions
- Cat's Cradle
- The Sirens of Titan
- Timequake
- Slapstick, or Lonesome No More
- Deadeye Dick
Another notable book I’ve purchased is War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy: it centres around the metamorphosis of five families, both peasant and aristocratic amid the backdrop of the Napoleonic Wars.
I also bought a couple of computer-related non-fiction books: The LaTeX Companion Second Edition is widely regarded as the most comprehensive guide to the great typesetting system; Bulletproof Web Design by Dan Cederholm is a great guide to correct XHTML and CSS and includes solutions to common design challenges.
Books really surpass television and the internet — there is a lot more content and none of the waffle or inaccuracies; I was thinking of writing “none of the superflous material” but there really isn’t enough of that on the internet.
