Summer adventures

The past month has been incredibly and unexpectedly busy and exciting. It began with my visit to Scotland, passing through the beautiful Lake District on the way, and finished with a camping expedition in North Wales.

My parents and I visited Northern Ireland and enjoyed an entertaining bus tour around the top-right of the country; the driver kept telling jokes and providing interesting information about the surroundings and I learned more than I expected to. The best thing we saw was probably the Giant’s Causeway, an impressive rock formation on the North East Coast: it provided a short walk and relief from the travelling.

I actually became pretty sick of travelling after spending 1600 miles — approximately 32 hours — in the back of my parents car and was glad to get home. Later that evening I went to Jujitsu, after missing the last session, and heard from my good friends Mark and Joe that they were planning to climb two mountains in Wales. They convinced me to come by promising to forget that I was such a boring loner — since I never manage to go clubbing or to the pubs.

The four-day trip to Wales was one of my favourite ever experiences. Being 16-stone (around 100 kg) climbing 1000 m is definitely not an easy task however I managed to complete both walks without holding up my two friends to a large degree. The views from the top of Snowdon and Tryfan were spectacular and I felt a sincere sense of undeniable achievement both evenings after completing each walk. Camping outdoors was a new experience and, forgetting the thousands of annoying flies, something I would like to do again

UNESCO World Heritage Sites

I feel that the visiting heritage sites around the world will be an enjoyable hobby; sites that I have now visited include:

  • 429: New Lanark Cotton-Mill village (Scotland)
  • 369: The Giant’s Causeway (Northern Ireland)
  • 428: City of Bath (England)
  • 373: Stonehenge, Avebury and Associated Sites (England)
  • 488: Tower of London (England)
  • 728: Old and New Towns of Edinburgh
